Yala Donates to Rogue Valley Farm to School through the Siskiyou Challenge

Yala was happy to donate to the second annual Siskiyou Challenge of our hometown, Ashland OR. The Rogue Valley Siskiyou Challenge  is a 5 leg multi sport relay race – 10K run, 3K lake kayak, a 25 mile road bike tour, a 9 mile mountain bike loop and a 5K run – that’s takes its participants 46 miles through Ashland and its surrounding areas.  The second annual race will be held on Saturday September, 24th, as a benefit for the Rogue Valley Farm to School program.

Farm to school programs link local farmers with schools. This simple concept holds great potential as a solution to two of the major challenges facing our society: concerns about the diet and health of children and the dwindling of small farms.

By purchasing locally grown products, schools are able to serve fresher produce to students, create new markets for local farms, and incorporate exciting programs that meet state education standards. Farms gain a sense of community involvement by impacting the lives of children and becoming involved in agricultural education, while benefiting from increased sales.” – Rogue Valley Farm to School

Last year, Caitlin, Lauren, Tif, Larry and John represented for team Yala. Wow, were we all worn out! We decided to take a break this year and let the die hards take on the course – we will be very happy to cheer them on from the sidelines!

If you are not a hard core athlete, but still want to participate they offer a fun run designed for families or anyone who wants to participate in a less rigorous way. Or, if you are ready for a challenge click here to register with a team or be paired with an existing team.

Festivities start Friday night with a BBQ at Emigrant Lake that you don't want to miss! Food generously provided by the Standing Stone Brewing Company, Artik Creamery with burgers by local Prather Ranch and the Ashland Coop. Reserve your place at the barbecue ($10 adults, $5 kids) when you register for Siskiyou Challenge on active.com OR by contacting the Race Director.

Best of luck,
